50 billion. That is the number of devices that will be connected to wireless networks worldwide by the year 2020. Ovam, a leading global Telecoms Consultancy produced a report called ‘Telecoms 2020’ which includes a list of future predictions with the overall consensus that the future is in ‘The Cloud’. The report’s key predictions point to connected devices having direct access to web-based cloud content and applications as a result of the widespread adoption of core web technologies and a small number of RIA (Rich Internet Application) technologies on those devices.
‘The Cloud’ will be a source and a store for a huge range of direct to consumer services and responsibility for complex application development will shift to cloud platform providers. It is predicted that these cloud platform providers will sell their platforms to service providers on a managed services basis.
