What is a SIP Trunk?
A SIP trunk is an internet telephone line which uses a Voice over IP protocol called SIP (session initiated protocol). SIP is open standard so is compliant with all modern IP enabled telephone systems. Because it is internet based, the capacity on the connection is much greater than a standard phone line. Our Cloud based SIP trunking service can scale on demand providing you with as many simultaneous calls as you require.
How to set up a SIP Trunk and how the SIP Trunk works
Simply go to the Sign Up page, shown on the right hand side there. Select the SIP Trunk Option. Choose one or more Minutes Add-On which suits your requirements. Once you have done this you will receive an email containing your personal registration details. These details need to be programmed into your PBX telephone system. Your PBX connects to your local internet router and makes a connection to our servers via your connection. Once connected you can make and receive calls as normal.
How our packages work
We can send in multiple DDIs on a single Trunk. Saving time on setup. Each SIP trunk Minute Bundle is designed to offer you fantastic value for money. Our advice is to choose one or more Add-Ons based on your minute usage as these provide the best value for money. It is possible to upgrade or downgrade your plan at any stage. Calls outside of your free minutes or to non-free destinations are charged at our standard low cost VoIP rates. How many simultaneous calls can you make?
The number of simultaneous calls capable on an internet line is dependent on the bandwidth. Although compression of the call is an option, we always recommend uncompressed where possible, as the call quality is much higher. A typical uncompressed call uses approx. 80kB of data each way so with a 512kB upload you should expect up to 6 simultaneous calls. If we were to compress the same call it would use approx. 30kB allowing up to 17 simultaneous calls. We will always adjust your trunk to your needs, not the other way around.

How many channels do I need?
All our SIP trunks packages include the reccomended amount of channels. You increase the channels as you need them. Every Incoming and outgoing call will use up 1 channel. The number of channels you need will depend on the maximum number of simultaneous calls you will have. Here are two examples:
(1.) If you have a system with 10 phones; We would usually recommend to have between 8 Channels.
(2.) A different business, like a taxi firm might have 5 phones but multiple incoming calls per phone. In this case would recommend to purchase about 16 channels.
