In-house telephone PBX or Cloud Hosted Telephone System
This is a very common decision every business considers when either deciding to upgrade or replace an existing telephone PBX so we try and explain the pros and cons of each. An in-house PBX is generally sold to a customer with the following pros over a cloud based system, and here is our answer to each;
- Voice Quality is better
Our solution is only offered on good quality internet connections. The robotic or garbled voice fears are not valid arguments. In fact, VoIP phone lines have overtaken ISDN/Analogue lines based on consumer confidence in the service. With ISDN being phased out and internet services constantly improving, VoIP is the domineering choice for new and existing customers choosing either an in-house PBX or a Cloud based telephone system. Speechpath also offer HD Voice over their network which is far superior compared to a typical ISDN call.
- What if you are without internet?
With the major advancement of internet services over the past couple of years, internet drops are very rare and even when they do happen are resolved in a very short time. However, should your internet connection drop, internal calls are still possible with our Cloud Service and external inbound calls can be automatically routed to a set of mobile/landline numbers. Outbound calls are only possible if you have a 2nd internet connection as failover. At Speechpath we are the only VoIP provider who offers a 4G backup connection giving you full redundancy if this is vital to running your business.
- Easier to Use and more features with an in-house PBX
While it is common amongst VoIP Cloud Providers to offer a very basic service which can be complicated to achieve base call handling, Speechpath’s service is designed to be simple and intuitive. We have built our platform to provide the basic call handling features with ease, i.e. call hold, transfer and conference calling. We then add extra features, which are again simple to use, but allow the end user to perform tasks which allow them to gain full advantage of our Cloud Platform, e.g. call history, missed calls and phonebooks. Our advanced features go a level above this to provide even more functionality to the end user, see here for more details.
The argument against a hosted PBX phone system for a long time focused on features. At Speechpath, we used our extension knowledge of a broad range of PBX systems, to provide a feature packed hosted version of our own. However, in providing these features, we started off with usability, making sure that our hosted telephone system is simple to use, straight forward and logical. We then built features on top of this platform which extended this business tool, proving it to be a valuable asset to any company looking to move beyond PBX systems towards a Cloud based system.
In-house PBX and Cloud VoIP Differences
See below for a feature list of what our Cloud VoIP System offers by comparison to hosted PBX systems. A PBX phone system is typically tiered in its nature offering varying levels of scalability, but usually on only specific channels. By contrast to a hosted IP PBX system, a Cloud VoIP system allows for a higher level of scalability with more collaboration across the system.
